Shaheed-e-Gilgit-o-Baltistan

20^th April, 2009 was happened the darkest night for the people of Gilgit Baltistan because that night they lost their beloved and great leader Syed Asad Zaidi. He was the man of lot of qualities. He was the man of principle, a great politician, hurt burning speaker and well known lawyer. He was not only an attractive person but also soft spoken person which differentiates among the others.

He got his initial education from Primary School Kharmang Khas and beside this he also got religious education, Arabic & Persian from their father Syed Mohsin Shah Zaidi and a well known religious Scholar namely Syed Muhammad Abbas Rizivi nick name Chogo Agha (Chogo Agha was the man who fought against the  Dogra Rules [Doghra Raj]  for the people of their home land). After that he got admission in High School Parkota (Mehdiabad) and passed Secondary School Certificate. Then he went to Rawalpindi and got admission in city’s famous college Garden College. Then he returned back to Skardu and joined as lecturer in Inter College Skardu Baltistan and later on he served as lesion officer in Department of Administration. He also served as Tehsildar in various districts of Baltistan.

He was a simple man and loved to live among the people thus why he resigned from Government luxurious job and started law practices from the welfare of the local people of their area. In a short period of law field, he became famous lawyer and politician among the people of Gilgit Baltistan. He was elected as a Member of the Council of Northern Area in 1987. After that he was again elected unopposed Member of the Council of Northern Area in the election of 1991. Then in 1994’s election, he was elected in the Cabinet of Northern Area Council as Adviser (Population & Development) after that in 2004’s election he was elected as Deputy Speaker.

Shaheed Syed Asad Zaidi played a significant role to establish of Northern Area Council into Northern Area Legislative Council and after that into Northern Area Legislative Assembly. He tried his best to indentify the proper name of their area and his conscious struggle he was succeeded to change the name of Northern Area to their proper and original name i.e “Gilgit-Baltistan.”

Due to his brevity scholars and politician you were popular not only in the assembly but also in the region and in all important issues/matters yours views and opinion were final.

The murder of Shaheed Syed Asad Zaidi realized that they have finished them but they forget they martyred Syed Asad Zaidi but they never ever stopped the noble cause of Zaidi’s mission.

Shaheed Syed Asad Zaidi gave an unforgettable message to young generation of their area for promotion of their home land. He will still remain live ever among the hearts of people of Gilgit Baltistan and his contribution for the welfare of the area and people of Gilgit Baltistan will also admired long. Shaheed Asad Zaidi left two widows, two son two brother and two sisters.
